چکیده

The electrocardiocardiogram (ECG) is a basic method used in cardiovascular epidemiologic investigations. Its value as a prognostic indicator of future cardiac events has been fully demonstrated, and some ECG items, such as a pattern of left ventricular hypertrophy, are considered as among the definite cardiovascular risk factors.1 However, the prevalence rates of various ECG abnormalities in a given population will depend on the true prevalence of cardiac disease as well as on the sensitivity and specificity of the ECG criteria included in the classification system. Different ECG coding systems using different criteria might provide different rates of ECG abnormalities in the same population. The most widely used and internationally accepted ECG coding system is the Minnesota code (MC), introduced by Blackburn in the 1960s. x This system, designed for the standard 12-lead ECG, was developed on an empirical basis, according to generally accepted criteria. More recently, Pipberger et al. proposed a new classification system, developed at the Washington VA hospital. 3 The Washington, D.C. code (WC) is designed for use with the Frank orthogonal lead system. By contrast with the MC, the WC has been validated on a population with wellknown cardiovascular status. The purpose of this study was to compare the two coding systems by applying them to the same population sample.

Nitrogen management strategies for maize production systems: Experimental data and crop modeling

Maize (Zea mays L.) is an important crop among Brazilian smallholder farmers, who are also responsible for 40% of the poultry and egg production in the country.Although poultry litter is considered a potential pollutant, if properly stabilized anddistributed in the field it can be used as a source of nitrogen for maize production. In this study, the response of maize to mineral fertilizer and pou...

Gender Differences in the Prevalence of Electrocardiogram Abnormalities in the Elderly: A Population Survey in India

Background: The health transition in India reflects the growing burden of cardiovascular diseases. It is well-known that there are significant and meaningful differences in the measured electrocardiogram (ECG) parameters between females and males. Specific to ECG diagnosis and ischemia, reports have indicated a higher number of false positive results in female patients than in male patients. Th...

Nitrogen management strategies for smallholder maize production systems: Yield and profitability variability

Maize (Zea mays L.) production requires large amounts of nitrogen (N) thatdirectly affect production cost. Poultry litter can be used as an alternative source ofN. To optimize its use, poultry litter requires technical and economic feasibilityanalyses. Crop simulation models have proven to be efficient tools to support thistype of research. The objectives of this study were to determine yield a...
